All the teaching and learning will happen in GOOGLE CHROME (rather than Safari), as this has a better functionality for student use. Students access this in the normal way via The Mairehau High School Google Site. Students will use their username and password to access their account. They will have a Google site and/or a Google classroom for each subject. Students and whānau should email their Wā Whānau teacher if they need help with their username or resetting their password.
Students should check their school email every morning. This is where students will check messages from their teacher and where they can check in with their learning each day. There may also be important updates from the school.
As much as possible, students should aim to keep working to their timetable. We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different and are aware that this might not be possible. Each teacher will have different expectations and methods for student's learning. These will be communicated to them via email, or Google platforms (e.g. Classroom or Sites). Some teachers may offer online students the opportunity to join a class via a Google Meet. An invitation to join the Meet will be emailed to the student. If whanau or students have any questions about their online learning, they should email the teacher directly.
The focus is to continue the learning and to continue working towards assessments where possible and practical. NZQA is working with schools to develop effective plans for NCEA assessment and qualifications for students affected by COVID-19. They have stated that their focus is fairness for all students.
